What is it and why do I need it?
Social media is any tool or service that uses the Internet to facilitate conversation. — Brian Solis
Social media is a brave new world of limitless potential and growth, and like any new territory it comes with its own set of rules. It has forever changed the way you will talk to your audience. You can’t just shout your message from the rooftops anymore because there is no humanity in that. People won’t listen to reconstituted messages–they want genuine conversation, the personal (albeit via keyboard) touch.
Social media is ruled by crowd wisdom, and is therefore regarded as one of the few havens of honesty and authenticity in our marketing-saturated world. Product reviews go viral overnight as friends share their brand experiences, both good and bad. And friends believe friends. Imagine the potential of “friend marketing.”
Social media has personality, is less formal, and simply more fun. Suddenly, solopreneurs have the same reach as the big boys and girls. And now on this uninhibited platform, you get to have a two way conversation with your audience to share knowledge and create awareness. The best news is people connect to you because they want to. They “friend” you, become a fan, “like” your page or follow you because they want to hear what you have to say. You’ve got their ear, now what are you going to do with it?
Think of Twitter as the canary in the coal mine. — Morgan Johnston, JetBlueAirways
Corporate blogging via social media sites is an artform. We can guide your messaging and teach you how to live up to the promise of being honest, relevant and responsive. We can help you engage.
But I Have A Website
Websites are no longer a “build it and they will come”. Think about your own search patterns. How many times do you search for a product, a service, a topic or a trend vs. a specific website? People are searching for information, not websites. They look for and talk to their friends, partners, clients, prospects and colleagues and listen to those same friends when they share a favorite service, or review a product.
You can’t buy attention anymore. Having a huge budget doesn’t mean anything in social media… The old media paradigm was PAY TO PLAY. Now you get back what you authentically put in. — Alex Bogusky, Co-Chairman, CP&B conversations
And where is most of this conversation happening? On social media. Even on TV, consumer ads are giving a shout out to their Twitter and Facebook pages. To succeed in business today, you must be leveraging social media to listen to and engage with your customers.
With 1 billion people on Facebook (or 14% of the world’s population) and 300 million on Twitter it’s no longer a question of should we? – but rather how soon can we?
Social media doesn’t need to be complicated, but you do need to be thoughtful about it. Becoming fluent in the language of social media is just like becoming fluent in any language — it helps to have a good teacher. We are great teachers and will help you find and keep your bearings in this new world. We can help you create goals and develop an engagement plan that you can sell to your stakeholders. We will see you through development, outreach and management and will even train your vocal bunch to be loud and proud conversation starters.
